India Squad T20 WC: ‘Pain free’ Kuldeep Yadav begins bowling at NCA NETS, but time running out for T20 World Cup berth: Check WHY?
On Monday, Kuldeep Yadav shared an update on his rehabilitation with the left-arm wrist spinner returning to full fitness while at the National Cricket Academy. Kuldeep had a fine resurgence in the IPL, picking up 21 wickets with four player of the match awards, earning a recall into the side.
However, an injury setback ruled him out of the South Africa, and he was hence also omitted from the England series. Kuldeep has since then returned to the grind at the NCA, trying to get back to full fitness. The 27-year-old is now bowling the nets and is getting his groove back on before a potential return to the squad.
Why is time running out for Kuldeep Yadav?
- After two years in the wilderness, Kuldeep Yadav returned to form with a stunning IPL season.
- The left-arm wrist spinner picked up 21 wickets in 14 games, winning four player of the match awards.
- He was called up for the South Africa series, but an injury ruled him out of action.
- Now back to full fitness at NCA, the 27-year-old will be in contention for the West Indies series and the Asia Cup.
- With Chahal establishing himself as 1st choice, chances will be limited for Kuldeep to prove his worth to the side.
- India have less 10 T20Is before the T20 World Cup in which Kuldeep could feature.

Despite a return to fitness, it might be too late for Yadav with India only having a handful of games before the T20 world Cup. The Men in Blue will play 3 T20Is against West Indies and then return to the subcontinent for the Asia Cup. With Yuzvendra Chahal establishing himself as the front line spinner, should Yadav return to the team, he will only have a handful of games under his belt.
The Delhi Capitals star will also face stiff competition from Ravi Bishnoi, who has performed well in the handful of opportunities presented to him. India’s rotation policy should see Kuldeep get a few games, but it might not be enough to force his way back into the side.
