INDIA Squad SL Series: India’s mission to ICC T20 World CUP 2024 will start with India vs SriLanka Series. Starting the new T20 era, the selection committee will name the squad for the series at home vs Lanka today (Tuesday). And it is to be expected that there will be some big names missing from the list. To give chance to new blood, the five key 2022 T20 World Cup squad members will be shunned from India’s scheme of things. These players are Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammad Shami, Dinesh Karthik, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul. Follow IND vs SL T20 LIVE updates with InsideSport.IN

Ravindra Jadeja Injury: Star Indian all-rounder Jadeja arrives at NCA in Bengaluru, set for his return in IND vs SL series (insidesport.in)

Beginning in January, a three-match T20I and three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka will kick off India’s 2022–23 domestic international season. This will also mark the start of the new white-ball era for Men in Blue.

It is unlikely that many Indian star players will feature in the T20 series vs SL. With a priority on ODIs next year, since it’s a World Cup year, selectors will instead try domestic stars out in the T20s. With this India’s T20 Reboot will come into full effect next month.

Insidesport

India’s abject exit from the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 in November left one and all disappointed and baffled. While the next T20 World Cup is two years away, the axe is likely to fall on senior players sooner or later. Mohammad Shami, Dinesh Karthik, and Ravichandran Ashwin may have played their last T20Is.

All three players are on the wrong side of the 30s and failed to put on a good show Down Under in the recently concluded T20 World Cup.

India captain Rohit Sharma suffered an injury against Bangladesh which saw him missing out on the Test series. And it is for sure that BCCI will not hurry Mumbai batter to hit the ground running vs SL.

The Indian captain sustained a thumb injury during IND vs BAN 2nd ODI. With the Australia series coming up in February 2023, the Indian board doesn’t want to take any risks. The medical team will conduct an injury assessment. And he will return for the SriLanka ODI series only if he is 100%.

  • Rohit underperformed with bat scoring just one fifty against Netherlands in WC. Karthik failed to finish matches for the team, while Ashwin did not get turn on some of the spin-friendly wickets in Australia. Mohammad Shami also failed to impress much.
  • India have quite a few exciting and fearless young players waiting in the side-lines like Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill, Umran Malik, and Washington Sundar.

Indian vice-captain and opener KL Rahul will also be not included in the T20I squad. The Karnataka lad is expected to be dropped for the upcoming Sri Lanka series at home. While sources are telling that Rahul will be dropped because of his marriage with Bollywood actor Ahiya Shetty which is scheduled to take place in early January 2023.

But one shouldn’t be surprised if KL is dropped more frequently in T20Is for India.

2022 has not been kind to Rahul. His struggles with the bat are more visible in T20Is. When rival camps’ openers were slogging the ball and boasting strike rates in excess of 140, Rahul’s strike rate across 16 matches in 2022 was a paltry 126.53.

He also only managed 434 runs with the help of six half-centuries, but the majority of those innings came at a rate that hampered the team’s cause. Seven of the remaining ten innings in which Rahul did not score were single digits.
