As expected, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have agreed to Gautam Gambhir’s request and made themselves available for the India vs Sri Lanka ODI series. Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Khaleel Ahmed, and Washington Sundar have made comebacks in ODI cricket, while Harshit Rana and Riyan Parag have earned themselves maiden call-ups.
Suryakumar Yadav, new T20I captain
Shockingly, Suryakumar Yadav has been named the next T20I captain. Hardik Pandya, who was Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the 2024 T20 World Cup, has been snubbed, and Shubman Gill has been named Surya’s vice-captain. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma, who were the best performers in the India vs Zimbabwe series, haven’t made it to the side, but Riyan Parag, despite failing in the series, has made not only the ODI but also the T20I side.
Rest for Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the white-ball series. The injury-prone pacer’s services aren’t required right now, and the board feels he needs to gear up for the upcoming home season, which starts on September 19. Similarly, Kuldeep Yadav has been rested for the T20I series but will feature in the ODIs as preparations for the Champions Trophy 2025.
