India Tour of South Africa: Important decisions taken
- Selectors remove Virat Kohli as the ODI captain.
- Rohit Sharma was handed over the ODI captaincy along with T20I captaincy.
- Ajinkya Rahane lost his Test vice-captaincy to Rohit Sharma
- However, despite opposition, the team management pushed for Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma’s selection. Both have had a poor run of form.
- With Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill and Axar Patel injured, selectors gave Jayant Yadav a longer run besides retaining Mayank Agarwal. Shreyas Iyer too has been given a longer run after century on debut.
- After Rahul Dravid’s request, there will be a week-long camp in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur have joined the camp.
- The ODI team will be announced at a later date as the series starts from January 19.

“It will be a point of discussion for sure. Virat has led the team successfully in ODIs but having two captains in limited-overs cricket can create unnecessary complications as the set of players will be same,” a BCCI official told InsideSport on Tuesday.
