The Indian women’s cricket team will go to bed happily tonight. Although New Zealand and Australia duked it out in Sharjah, the side that actually emerged victorious was Team India. Having faced a comprehensive defeat at the hands of the White Ferns, the Women in Blue were lagging far behind.
New Zealand’s loss, India’s gain
Their Net Run Rate had plummeted to -2.9, but a victory over Pakistan got them to -1.2. The battle wasn’t just to win the remaining two games, one of which is against 6-time champions Australia, but to gain those victorious by huge margins to go from negative to positive in NRR. Luckily, Australia has helped Team India. They’ve hammered the Kiwis, winning by 60 runs.
New Zealand no longer occupies the top spot in Group A of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Instead, they’ve plummeted down to the third spot. Pakistan may have gone to second, but one mustn’t forget that they are yet to face New Zealand and Australia, who are expected to beat them easily. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, are dead last, and they’ll meet India tomorrow and then the Kiwis on October 12.
