India went with Axar Patel & Ravichandran Ashwin as two spin options at the MCG against Pakistan. With seam conducive wicket, spinners did not have a great day. But Ashwin still managed to hold his ends, returning with economical figures of 0/23 in 3.
But unlike MCG, Sydney pitches have been historically kind to the spinners. In the only match at the venue between Australia and New Zealand, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi were both excellent. Sodhi bagged 1/29 in his 4 while Santner returned with 3/31 in his 4. The spin duo helped New Zealand bundle Australia for 111.

India Playing XI vs NED: What are the changes expected?
- Axar Patel had a bad day against Pakistan, going for 21 runs in the only over he bowled.
- But the Indian team management has given their backing to the spinning all-rounder.
- Netherlands are not so strong side in the T20 WC and that will help Chahal to get back to his best.
- The Sydney pitch is also helpful for spinners.
- As Mhambrey has declared, Hardik Pandya will play hence, he could be India’s 3rd seam option.
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Shami are the three seamers besides Axar and Ashwin making up the five bowling options.

As for India’s Top 4, there won’t be any changes as Rohit Sharma would want to have some continuity. Rishabh Pant at No 5 is an option to ponder as he hasn’t had a good run of late. Deepak Hooda could also compete for the spot if the team management decides to rest Hardik Pandya for one game.
Suryakumar Yadav will also be tempted to get some big scores. He has made it a habit of disappointing in big matches. But against a weaker bowling attack of Netherlands, he will get the momentum for South Africa game.
In pace bowling department, Harshal Patel is set to extend his stay on the bench with Shami, Arshdeep and Bhuvneshwar becoming India’s pace spearheads.
