Why Ashwin could breathe fresh air in India’s XI? In case Ashwin returns to Indian XI, it will be after almost 4 years gap.

  • Ravichandran Ashwin is the most experienced spinner in the side with 615 international wickets.
  • With Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja being rendered ineffective in the last two matches, R Ashwin could breathe fresh air.
  • Unlike Chakravarthy, R Ashwin can bat and 5 Test centuries and 1 ODI half-century is just an indication. He can add depth to the batting as India’s batting has been abysmal.
  • In the last few years, Ashwin has also added variations to his bowling in T20s, troubling batsmen.
  • As Afghanistan do not often play a quality off-spinner like Ashiwn, it can play to India’s advantage.

India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour said all members of the squad are fit and available for selection while hinting at R Ashwin’s return. But as has been seen in the past, a stubborn captain Virat Kohli has refused to pay heed and omit Ashwin from Playing XI.

“All players are available for selection. We haven’t discussed the final XI yet. We will take a call tomorrow. But nobody is ruled out,” Rathour said.

R Ashwin picked up the first two wickets, Australia vs India, T20 World Cup warm-up, Dubai, October 20, 2021

Return on Cards for SuryaKumar Yadav: In yesterday’s optional practice session, Surya batted for almost 45 mins to hour in nets. He was not in any visible discomfort. First skipper Virat Kohli & then coach Ravi Shastri was also seen spending time with the Mumbai Indians batsman clearly indicating that SKY is set to return to playing XI.

INDIA Playing XI vs AFGHANISTAN: If Surya & Ashwin are coming back, who goes out of the Indian Playing XI. All indications, available information is pointing towards two things.

  • 1) Unimpressive Shardul Thakur can lose his place in XI
  • 2) Coach, Captain finally losing confidence on Hardik Pandya

India Playing XI vs AFG: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya / Ishan Kishan, Ravichandran Ashwin / Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy

The all-rounder Hardik Pandya has looked unimpressive in his T20 World Cup campaign. Be it batting or his comeback to bowling vs New Zealand, he is nothing short of ordinary.

While mentor Dhoni still backs Hardik, Virat Kohli & Ravi Shastri seems to be running out of patience.

Ishan Kishan as opener Experiment Over: Instead of opening with KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan is expected to play deep and is expected to score quick runs. To put it simply, he will play the finisher’s role & may take Hardik’s place in XI.
