India Playing XI 3rd T20: India vs NewZealand LIVE – After a loss and a scrappy win against NewZealand on turning tracks, captain Hardik Pandya has blamed poor pitches. Shubman Gill hasn’t cracked the T20 code while Ishan has failed to replicate his ODI form in T20s. Follow IND vs NZ LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
India Playing XI 3rd T20: Prithvi Shaw SNUBBED again, Umran Malik returns for Chahal in 3rd T20 against NewZealand- Check out
India (Playing XI): Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan(w), Rahul Tripathi, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya(c), Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh
“Tough on the batters in the last two games, but credit to them for the approach they have shown. This is what as a unit we strive for, we are going to get tested but we will learn from it. These kind of knockout games teach you a lot. One change – Umran comes in for Yuzi because this surface looks like it will help the fast bowlers,” said Hardik Pandya after winning the Toss.

India Playing XI 3rd T20: Ishan & Shubman’s SPOT under scanner, Prithvi Shaw likely in Ahmedabad T20, Decision on spinners based on pitch, Follow IND vs NZ LIVE Updates
India played with four spinners in the squad in Lucknow including two full-time leg-spinners. But the composition may change depending on the pitch in Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad has produced good, bad and ugly pitches for batters in the last three matches across formats.
In Tests, it was a rank-turner, in ODIs, it was a two-paced wicket while in the last T20, it was a batting heaven. Hence, it’s still not clear how the pitch will behave on Wednesday.
While cricket pundits have refused to offer a say on India’s batting in the first two T20s considering how the pitches behaved, the two openers are under the scanner.
Shubman Gill in last 5 T20s: 7, 5, 46, 7, 11
Ishan Kishan in last 5 T20s: 37, 2, 1, 4, 19
Shubman, who is in purple patch in ODIs, has averaged just 15.20 in T20s. The other ODI double-centurion has averaged 12.60 in 2023. Hence, India need a new strategy. Runs have been difficult to come by in powerplay and even though the pitches have played a part, India need some freshness. Prithvi Shaw offers that freshness in opening. He can hammer the ball from the get-go with a powerplay strike rate of 152.30.
In the bowling department, India have shown trust in Arshdeep Singh despite his dip in form. Along with him, Shivam Mavi will also continue. But unlike the Lucknow T20 where India played 4 spinners (Kuldeep, Chahal, Deepak Hooda and Washington Sundar), the strategy will change. Chahal dropped out as Umran Malik is drafted into the starting XI.
India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik wants India to include an additional batter in place of a bowler.
“If the wicket is similar or slightly better, they can add a batter. It will definitely be Jitesh Sharma. If a medium pacer is not going to bowl enough, it’s better to get a batter. But if the wicket aids pace, then definitely Umran Malik will be the man,” Dinesh Karthik told Cricbuzz.
India Squad NZ T20: Hardik Pandya (Captain), Suryakumar Yadav (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi, Prithvi Shaw
