India Playing XI 3rd ODI: India vs NewZealand LIVE – As on the expected lines, Mohammed Shami and Siraj are rested for the third and final ODI against New Zealand. Umran Malik finally gets a game to play after warming benches for two ODIs. Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is back as skipper Rohit Sharma opted for the KULCHA combination. India have already sealed the ODI series by winning the first two matches in Hyderabad and Raipur. Follow IND vs NZ LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

Teams:
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umran Malik

New Zealand (Playing XI): Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(w/c), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson, Jacob Duffy, Blair Tickner

India are due to play four Test matches against Australia starting on February 9. With WTC’s final place at stake, the management decided to rest the main pacers, Mohammed Shami and Siraj. India have pocketed the series and can afford to tinker with team combinations. Chahal returns to the team after a slight shoulder niggle. Meanwhile, Umran Malik has been given a game after an impressive show against Sri Lanka in ODIs. Both Malik and Chahal are not part of the Australian series.

  • India have already sealed the series with an 8-wicket win in 2nd ODI.
  • Indore will likely offer a lot of runs with bowlers expected to struggle.
  • But it will serve as a good batting practice for the likes of Suryakumar Yadav who will play in the T20 series.
  • With series already sealed, India could also hand debut to Rajat Patidar, who has been warming the bench.

Insidesport

After a disappointing bowling show in the 1st ODI, Indian bowlers finally found form. Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj bowled with the new ball in tandem, rattling Kiwi top-order in Raipur. While they were under-utilised with India vs Australia Test series next month, Rohit Sharma can afford to make changes.

“These guys (bowlers) have some serious skills, they work really hard and it’s great to see them being rewarded. Shami and Siraj were raring to keep bowling long spells. But I reminded them that there is a Test series coming up as well. So, we need to take care of themselves as well,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation after 2nd ODI.

While Shami isn’t too keen on taking a break, he will have to spearhead India’s pace attack against Australia. Jasprit Bumrah is out with back injury while India have had too many injuries in pace bowling department.

India Playing XI 3rd ODI: What to expect from IND vs NZ 3rd ODI?

  • Shubman Gill has been in excellent form. But as India have already sealed the series, India can promote Ishan Kishan to open.
  • In Gill’s place, someone like Rajat Patidar could come in the middle-order.
  • KS Bharat has also sat out of the first two ODIs. But with the IND vs AUS Test coming up, India may look to give him a chance.
  • Washington Sundar could make way for Shahbaz Ahmed.
  • Kuldeep Yadav has managed to keep Yuzvendra Chahal at the bay but the premier leggie could come in.
  • Umran Malik is set to replace Mohammad Siraj or Shami for the Indore ODI.

Insidesport

It will be interesting to see what changes India make in the spin department. While Kuldeep Yadav has performed admirably, Washington Sundar has had his ups and downs. But as India look for a permanent replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin in ODIs, Sundar may just continue while he is having a good run.

Sundar isn’t part of the Test squad. Even in ODIs, he had to fight for a spot with Axar Patel. The latter has done well with both bat and the ball and in his absence, Sundar will expect a longer run.
