India Playing XI 2nd ODI vs NZ: India vs NewZealand LIVE: India have make two changes into their playing XI. Deepak Chahar replaces Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Hooda comes in for Sanju Samson. India is trailing 1-0 in the series and this is a must-win encounter. While the series is not significant to Team India, it is a mini battle for positions. The series is part of India’s World Cup 2023 audition. One player who has been struggling with injuries is Deepak Chahar. The pacer is yet to be at his 100% fitness after a 2nd layoff with injury. India’s pace battery comprising Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh struggled against Kane Williamson and Tom Latham. They conceded 197 runs in 27.1 overs combined. While Umran did his best with relative inexperience, Shardul did not live up to the expectation. The other ODI debutant Arshdeep went for 68 runs in his 8.1 overs.

Indian Bowling Attack in 1st ODI:

  • Arshdeep Singh: 0/68 in 8.1 ovs
  • Shardul Thakur: 1/63 in 9 ovs
  • Umran Malik: 2/66 in 10 ovs
  • Yuzvendra Chahal: 0/67 in 10 ovs
  • Washington Sundar: 0/42 in 10 ovs

While it’s early to discard Arshdeep Singh, the team management will put him on notice. Umran however will aim to continue the momentum. He might have played just four 50-over games in his career but he has shown his skills. He is back with thunderous 150KPH+ deliveries and he has worked on his variations, bowling at 90KPH as well.

India Playing XI 2nd ODI: What to expect from 2nd ODI:

  • India trail in the series 0-1 after a thrashing from Latham-Williamson.
  • But India can’t fault their batters. The openers and middle-order did well.
  • However, it’s Rishabh Pant whose time is running out.
  • Even though Pant has excellent numbers in ODIs in 2022, his poor run of form of late in white-ball is a concern.
  • His two primary competitors Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are hot on his tail.
  • With both Ishan and Sanju scoring runs, Rishabh Pant needs to get the scoring form back.
  • But he will retain his place as he is the designated vice-captain in the series.
  • Although Suryakumar Yadav faltered in the 1st ODI, he is certain to play a bigger role in ODIs.
  • For India’s only designated all-rounder in 1st ODI, Washington Sundar played his role to perfection with both bat and the ball.
  • Sundar will keep his place edging Deepak Hooda in competition.
  • India could also go with Kuldeep Yadav after a below average showing from Yuzvendra Chahal.
  • In pace department, the only big question is Deepak Chahar’s fitness.
  • If he is fully fit, Chahar will replace Shardul Thakur for 2nd ODI.

As for the batting department, India will go unchanged. Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer all scored half-centuries. Sundar applied the finishing touch, smashing 16-ball 37. All Top 6 will retain their spots.
