The hunt continues for the next India Cricket Team head coach. While the deadline for submission by the BCCI is done, it is now time for the apex body to select the next head coach. The word in the wind is Gautam Gambhir is tipped to succeed Rahul Dravid as the main man to guide the Men in Blue. After IPL 2024, Gambhir is now discussing his contract with BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
Gautam Gambhir has been in the spotlight for quite sometime. But his recent exploits come as Kolkata Knight Riders win the IPL 2024 under his mentorship. While VVS Laxman was the prime favourites, the Hyderabadi declined as the BCCI then turned their target to Gambhir.
Why Gautam Gambhir?
As far has coaching goes, Gambhir has no real experience of the same. He has never managed any team be it domestic or international. In fact he was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants in 2022 and 2023 which saw the team making it to the knockouts on both occasions.
But now, in his latest stint at KKR, he guided the side to lift the title after a span of 10 years. But the BCCI is particularly fond of him. This is mainly owing to the fact that the BCCI wants the next head coach to come up from the ranks of the system. As a result, none of the top foreign coaches have applied for the post.
India over KKR?
The BCCI will be processing and evaluating the candidates that have applied for the post. Following which they will reach a conclusion before appointing the person. However, as per reports, Gautam Gambhir has likely applied for the role. But there is no consolidated proof to back the claim as of now.
It remains to be seen as to what unfolds in the following days. Gautam Gambhir will have to inform Shah Rukh Khan before officially leaving his place from the franchise. But with discussions on-going, it is likely that Gambhir will opt for country over franchise cricket.
A known aggressor, a nationalist – Gautam Gambhir likely to be the next head coach for the Indian Cricket Team. But the job won’t be easy. With constant travel and being away from the family for over 10 months, can surely be hard ordeal.
