India lose No.1 Test position to Australia despite Cape Town heist

Australia edged past India to move to No.1 in the ICC Test rankings. While Australia now have 118 rating points, India have 117.

India have slipped from the top spot in the rankings despite a historic victory in Newlands. On Thursday, India became the first Asian team to win a Test match in Cape Town. The match was also the shortest ever in Test history, thanks to heroics from Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah on a spicey pitch.

However, India had lost the first Test of the two-match series in Centurion late December.

While Australia top the charts with 118 rating points, India are second with 117. England are 3rd in the rankings, South Africa 4th and New Zealand remain on 5th.

Pakistan, who are staring at an embarrassing 0-3 drubbing in Australia, are 6th in the ICC Test rankings.

Australia have been on the rise since their defeat to India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early in 2023. They went on to win the final of the World Test Championship and successfully defended the Ashes in England.

Australia are now on the verge of a 3-0 whitewash over Pakistan. They have been invincible at home and ironically the last team which defeated the Aussies in their own den was India.
