It might not be wrong to say that R Ashwin has perhaps been India’s greatest match-winner in Tests at home, in the last decade of so. In the last Test, he got to his 500 wickets, whereas in the current IND vs ENG Test at Ranchi, he managed to pick up his 35th fifer, bringing India back in the match.
In short, he has been a great servant to Indian cricket, in his 99 Tests, where he has picked up 507 wickets, and scored over 3308 runs. Even former India opener Sunil Gavaskar recogised his immense contribution, and wished, that after India wins the Test, skipper Rohit Sharma should let Ashwin lead the field.
After the end of day three, Gavaskar said on JioCimema, “India win tomorrow, and you go to Dharamshala, just hope that Rohit just allows you to lead the team out of the field. That’ll be a wonderful gesture, honour for all that you have done for Indian cricket.”
India Favorites to Win Test & Series
The match currently stands heavily in favour of India. After being set a target of 192, as England was bowled out for 145, India scored 40/0 on Sunday. They just now need 152 runs to win the Test, and hence, the series.
