India hand Pakistan a lifeline for Super 8 qualification, but USA & Ireland can still spoil party

Pakistan Qualification Scenario: After IND vs USA match, Pakistan need to win vs Ireland and hope Ireland beat USA.

More than the Indian fans getting happy with the IND vs USA result on Wednesday, it would be the Pakistani fans who would be hailing the win. In a crucial Group A match, India beat the hosts by seven wickets and eight balls to spare, while chasing 111. Suryakumar Yadav scored 50 from 49, while Arshdeep Singh was excellent with figures of 4/9. And that meant India have qualified for the T20 World Cup Super 8.

Poor Pakistan Get India Lifeline

In the tournament so far, Pakistan cricket team has been rather poor, as they lost their first two matches vs USA and IND. The twin losses left them in a lurch, and that made their qualification for the Super 8 rather difficult. Not only they had to win all their matches after that, but also hope that India would win against the USA. As just one more win for them would have taken the hosts to the next stage.

While the coast is yet not clear, Pakistan lives another day in the tournament. Babar Azam & Co. still have a chance to make it to the next round.

Pakistan Qualification Scenario

As things stand now in Group A, India top the group with six points from three matches and an NRR of +1.137. USA is still at second with four points from three games but their NRR has come down to +0.127. But after the IND vs USA result and Pakistan’s win over Canada, their NRR has improved to +0.191, which is better than of USA. So a win, close or convincing, would seal the deal for Pakistan. But Pakistan is still not safe. If Ireland loses to USA, then the latter go through.
