Rohit eyes Ponting’s record –

As things stand, Rohit Sharma will need one more win to equal the record of the former Australia captain’s record while another win in the first ODI will see him break the record. Rohit has been huge success as captain of he Mumbai Indians (MI) where he actually took captaincy lessons from Ponting.

Rohit will have a great chance to lead the side and add another feather to his impressive cap. He is not part of the ODI squad that will face West Indies in West Indies, so he  will have the golden opportunity to equal and break the record.

Ponting and his World Class team from 2003

Ponting’s record stretches way back to 2003 when his Australia side won the World Cup, winning 11 consecutive matches to go unbeaten. In the Australian side of 2003, Ponting had world-class players like, Brett Lee, Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist, Michel Bevan and many others.

While Australian skipper also had the likes of Justin Langer and Shane Warne at his disposal when it came to Test matches. Ponting’s record of 20 consecutive wins was a result of mix of both youth and experience.
