The intra-squad match has begun and it is a closed-door affair. It comes just two days after Team India began practice in Southampton. It will also give the team a much-needed competitive feel before all the important ICC WTC Final against Tim Southee & Co who have already played a Test against hosts England, giving them an edge to acclimatize to the conditions. It will also help KL Rahul, who has been recovering from appendicitis surgery.

India Cricket Intra Squad Match: “It’s important to have matches. You have practice sessions, but the important thing is to have matches and spend time in the middle, not just for the batsmen, but for the fast bowlers and spinners as well. By spending time in the middle, they know what length to hit. That has been a problem for the past 10 years now. Look, when you go to Australia, England, and New Zealand, the conditions are so different. You need practice matches to get acclimatised to the conditions,” Dilip Vengsarkar told Khaleej Times.
