India coach heaps praise on team’s ‘Ben Stokes’ Deepti Sharma after historic win

Deepti Sharma put up a fantastic all-round show in the one-off Test against ENG W as IND W secured a historic win

India Women’s coach Amol Mazumdar was ecstatic after the side’s historic 347-run win against England Women in the one-off Test in Mumbai. IND W recorded their biggest ever victory margin, with Deepti Sharma emerging as an all-round star in the game. The head coach, who was mightily impressed by the team’s performance, termed the win as a good sign for Indian cricket.

Coach heaps praise on ‘Ben Stokes’ Deepti Sharma

Speaking at the post-match presentation, IND W coach Amol Mazumdar heaped praise on the group, noting that no Test was easy. Revealing that he called Deepti Sharma ‘Ben Stokes’, Mazumdar said that she was an ‘important cog in the wheel’. The head coach also pointed out that the team was set to take on Australia in another Test in four days time – a first of sorts for India Women.

“It’s been absolutely brilliant. Amazing stuff from the girls. No Test match is easy. But the effort the girls put in before the Test match, and the people who came in 5-6 days before – had a solid group that was working at the Wankhede stadium. Good sign for Indian cricket. All of them who made their debut who batted and bowled well. England is a top side – no doubt about it. You’re talking about Stokesy (referring to Deepti). I jokingly call her Ben Stokes in the team. The confidence she’s carrying, and the confidence she’s gained. She’s an important cog in the wheel. We have back to back Tests – never happened before. We’re playing Australia in four days time“, Amol Mazumdar said.

IND W register historic ENG W

It did not take more than 28 overs for Team India to register an emphatic victory in the longest format of the game after a gap of nine years, as they beat mediocre England by 347 runs in the only Test at Navi Mumbai, on Saturday. After declaring the innings at the overnight score of 186/6, the Indian bowlers were on top of their game once again, as they bundled out hapless visitors for a paltry 131 runs.
