Former England captain Nasser Hussain suggested that the Indian top-order batters may pick up some tips on how to deal with pacers from Pakistan’s Babar Azam and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.
India suffered yet another defeat on Sunday in the World Test Championship final, falling to Australia by a score of 209 runs. Team India’s last seven wickets fell meekly for just 70 runs.
“Really disappointed with the Indian batters, their fans might come after me for saying this but I think Indian top order needs to look at Babar Azam and Kane Williamson on how to play the pacers when ball is moving around. Both of them do it so late,” Nasser told Sky Sports.
India lost the World Test Championship finals for the second time in a row; they also lost to New Zealand in 2021.
When first innings centurions Travis Head and Steve Smith began to dominate Team India bowlers, Rohit claimed his team lost the game on the first day of the Test.
While Rohit will lead India to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup later this year, there are still uncertainties about his and several of his teammates’ futures going into the 2025 World Test Championship cycle.
All four players—former captain Virat Kohli, dependable No. 3 Cheteshwar Pujara, recalled hitter Ajinkya Rahane, and Rohit himself—are older than 34 and will be in their late-career years in two years if they continue their current form and are still playing in India’s Test XI for the next Final.
India had only themselves to blame for yet another defeat in a major competition because Australia was obviously the superior team on all fronts. The latest ICC championship won by India was in 2013.
Thus, Australia became the first group to sweep all ICC championships. In 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015, Australia won the ODI World Cup. Additionally, it won consecutive seasons of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2006 and 2009 as well.
