Cheteshwar Pujara is likely to lead India A on their full-fledged tour of Bangladesh A in December. While the squads are yet to be named of the A tour, Cricbuzz reports that Pujara alongside Umesh Yadav and KS Bharat could be named in the team. The trio are part of the India squad for the Bangladesh Test series, expected to kick off in late December.
The BCCI had announced the India squad on October 31st while the Chetan Sharma led committee will announce the A-squad in the coming days. The idea behind the inclusion of Pujara, Umesh and Bharat is to provide them with game time, with the trio considered as red ball specialists. The others in the squad have been part of India set up during the ODI and T20I series in recent months.
India-A tour of Bangladesh: Why Pujara, Umesh will be part of the A squad?
- Umesh Yadav and Cheteshwar Pujara are both set to be called up to the India A squad alongside reserve keeper KS Bharat.
- The trio could feature in the tour in a bid to assess the conditions and get match practice before the senior tour later in December.
- With India needing to win all six matches to reach the WTC final, every game becomes a final and Rohit and Co can use the experience and expertise of conditions.
- The trio have also had little international game time in the last six months, with Umesh featuring in a solitary T20I.

Alongside the aforementioned trio, Sarfaraz Khan is set to get a call-up. The Mumbai-born stalwart was the leading run-getter in Ranji Trophy last year and was part of the A series against New Zealand. A case for Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran could also be made, Cricbuzz understands.
While no dates have been finalised, the A series will precede the senior tour, with Rohit Sharma’s Men in Blue set to play two tests and three ODIs between December 4 and 26. The ODI series kicks off first, meaning the A tour games could be played at that point. The first Test begins on December 14.
