Women’s Asia Cup 2022: Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and others don NEWjersey for Asia Cup ahead of opening clash vs Sri Lanka
The Indian team has been tagged strong favourites. And Harmanpreet Kaur and co stayed true to the tag with a solid show on Saturday.
India, who were asked to bat first, lost their openers Mandhana and Varma quickly. The openers are fabulous players, but those early wickets put them in the backfoot. But Rodrigues ensured that the team does not get affected as she began to play her shots.
The right-hander looked in top form throughout the innings. Such was her batting that the Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur played second fiddle. However, the captain departed after scoring 33. It was the innings of Rodrigues, which comprised of 11 fours and six that pushed India to 150/6.

When it came to their bowlers, all of them were spot on the money right from the outset. Though Sri Lanka started well, they lost track in the mid stages of the second innings. As hAthaapthuthu was out for 26, the floodgates opened.
Sri Lanka batters could not get their game going. Eight of their batters were out for single digit scores, which did not help their cause. They were eventually all out for 109 runs. Hemalatha was the star bowler for India, scalping three wickets while Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar scalped two each.
