IND W vs AUS W: Points system scrapped, Alyssa Healy raises red flags ahead of 1st Test

Australia skipper Alyssa Healy was surprised that the points system was done away with ahead of IND W vs AUS W series

Australia Women’s skipper Alyssa Healy was surprised after the points system was scrapped for the IND W vs AUS W multi-format series. Healy and co and will take on India in the 1st Test commencing from Thursday. Bypassing the old points system, the BCCI has decided that each series victory (different formats) would be counted individually.

IND W vs AUS W: Healy surprised as points system scrapped

As per Fox News, Healy noted that while she saw merit in the new system, the old points system was something that played a part in multi-format series in the past for her side, particularly in Tests. However, she said that it would be ‘cool’ for both sides to fight for three individual trophies.

“I can see value and merit in making them all separate and sort of rewarding the wins as you go; I can see the merit in that,” Healy told reporters in Mumbai on Wednesday.

“But on the flip side of that, we’ve been a part of a few multi-format series where the points system has come into play and it’s given the Test match in particular a greater context, in my mind.

“And this might be a little bit cheeky, I would have thought that India would have backed themselves in their home conditions and got off to a four-nil start, so it does surprise me a little bit.

“But at the same time, it’ll be cool to just battle it out for three separate trophies.”
