IND-W vs AUS-W Drawn: The one-off Test between Indian women and Australian women has ended in a draw. India women set a target of 272 runs for the visitors but the scorecard read 36/2 at the end of gameplay.

Spirit Mandhana’s 127 remained the standout innings of the only Test. Indian bowlers also showed their potentials with Jhulan Goswami and Pooja Vastrakar wrapping up Aussies for just 241/9 in their first innings. India had earlier slammed 377/8 declared while Poonam Raut, Smriti Manadhana and Shafali Verma stretched India’s lead to 271 runs.

With this draw, both teams will get two points each. The multi-format series after the ODIs and a Test currently stands at Australia 6 – India 4. The Pink Test saw fine performances from Smriti Mandhana with the bat in the first innings, Shafali in the second, with the ball – Jhulan was outstanding and the others chipped in. For Australia, again it was Ellyse Perry who came to the team’s rescue with the bat while Stella Campbell on debut impressed with her attitude to charge in and try at all times.

Resuming the third session at 106/2, Georgia Wareham removed Shafali Verma quickly. And shortly after just 7 overs in the final session, Mithali Raj declared the second innings of India with a lead of 271, with 32 overs left in the match.

India enjoyed a great start in the final session as Jhulan Goswami bowled Alyssa Healy in the third over of the innings. It was a short ball outside off and Healy played a lacklustre shot as the ball hit the toe-end of the bat and back onto the stumps.

Meg Lanning then joined Beth Mooney on the pitch and started stabilising the ship for hosts. However, Pooja Vastrakar struck in the 10th as she dismissed Beth Mooney after Aussie edged to Gayakward at fine leg. After five overs, just as they were walking away for some drinks, Mithali Raj and Meg Lanning came together and agreed that it was enough for the day.

@15:40: India declare at 135/3. Shafali Verma’s 52 helps India set 273 target for Australia.

@14:44 PM: Shafali Verma reaches her half-century as India go past the 100-run mark in their second innings. India 106 for 2 (Verma 51*, Raut 16*) vs Australia

@14:10 PM: Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana gave India yet another quick start, putting on 70 in just 18 overs before the latter departed. Yastika Bhatia was promoted up the order but perished cheaply. India 77/2 (Shafali 38*, Raut 0*)

@12:25 PM: Meghna Singh, Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma bowled probing line and length as India gained a sizeable 136-run advantage after Meg Lanning declared Australia’s innings at 241/9. Ellyse Perry remained unbeaten at 67* as she witness a shock collapse following the dismissal of fellow half-centurion Ashleigh Gardner.

Australia would be under tremendous pressure to almost bat all day and survive India’s onslaught with the ball. There’s only one team that can win the game from here, and that’s India. But the overall test is heading towards a NO-RESULT until or unless India does the UNTHINKABLE.

At stumps, Australia’s score read 143/4 after 60 overs in their first innings — trailing the visitors by 234 runs with six wickets in the bag. Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner were unbeaten on 27 and 13 respectively. The Aussies are still 85 runs behind the follow-on target.

The third day started with India adding 101 runs to their overnight score in the first session (thanks mainly to Deepti Sharma’s 66) and the visitors declared shortly after the dinner break. From there it was all about the veteran Jhulan Goswami. The experienced campaigner thrived with the pink ball under lights.

Dismissing both openers, Jhulan (2-27) led the way for India, before Pooja Vastrakar (2-26) followed her lead, showing excellent control throughout an extended spell. Both finished the day with an economy rate of less than two runs an over.
Resuming the third session on 69/2, the Aussies moved with caution as Lanning and Perry gathered 11 runs in the first seven overs of the session.

However, in the 32nd over of the innings, Pooja Vastrakar struck to get the big wicket of the Australian captain. Lanning was given LBW after the ball nipped back late and tapped her bang on the pads. But replays suggested there was a slight inside edge. Lanning was not happy but there is no DRS in this Test match.
Tahlia McGrath then joined Perry in the middle and steadied the ship for hosts. Australia crossed the 100 runs mark in the 42nd over of the match.

With the stand between both Aussie players going strong, Vastrakar struck again in the 50th over as she sent back Tahlia McGrath. The Australian walked back to the dressing room after scoring 28 off 68 balls.

Ashleigh Gardner then joined Perry on the pitch as the Aussie duo ensured no more wickets fell for the hosts on a penultimate day.

IND-W vs AUS-W LIVE Score – Rain Disrupts first 2 days: Smriti Mandhana created history as the opener became the first Indian woman to hit a Test century in Australia. But the persistent rain once again forced play to be called off early on the second day of the pink-ball Test as India ended on 276/5 against Australia at the Carrara Oval on Thursday. Riding on a brilliant hundred from Smriti Mandhana — her maiden Test ton — the visitors are clearly calling the shots in the D/N Test.

IND-W vs AUS-W Live At stumps, Deepti Sharma (12) and Taniya Bhatia (0) were unbeaten at the crease. For Australia, Ashleigh Gardner, Ellyse Perry, and Sophie Molineux picked a wicket each on the second day. India scored 45 runs in the second session before play was suspended due to persistent rain. The game was eventually called off as no play was possible due to the weather.

Resuming the second day on 132/1, Mandhana and Punam Raut continued with their A-game as they frustrated the Australian bowling attack. The first big highlight of the day came when Mandhana was caught by Beth Mooney at the score of 80. But turned out it was a no-ball from Ellyse Perry.

After that gift by hosts, Mandhana continued taking the attack to the opposition as she reached the three-figure mark in the 52nd over of the innings after smashing two fours off Ellyse Perry.

After the centurion was dismissed, India lost wickets quickly as Punam Raut, skipper Mithali Raj, and Yastika Bhatia all failed to score big. Interestingly, Raut decided to walk back even though the umpire hadn’t raised the finger.

Day 2 Highlights

  • Rain stops play: India 276 for 5 (Sharma 12*, Bhatia 0*) vs Australia
  • OUT!! Huge blow as captain Mithali Raj departs after scoring 30. IND 274/5
  • OUT! Bhatia departs after Ellyse Perry finally gets a breakthrough. Yastika gets a leading edge which is caught by Beth Mooney at gully. IND 261/4
  • Dinner Break on Day 2: India 231 for 3 (Raj 15*, Bhatia 2*) vs Australia
  • India 224 for 3 (Raj 13*, Bhatia 2*) vs Australia
  • OUT! Poonam Raut’s vigil ends, departs after a 165- ball 36. India 217/3
  • OUT! Mandhana hits it straight to silly mid-off to depart for a record-breaking 127. India 195/2
  • India 183 for 1 (Mandhana 119*, Raut 26*) vs Australia
  • CENTURY! Smriti Mandhana has her maiden Test hundred. She has answered her critics well. IND 157/1
  • India 132 for 1 (Mandhana 80*, Raut 16*) vs Australia

IND-W vs AUS-W Stumps: Smriti Mandhana reaches career best 80*, Rain ends play on Day 1 of Pink Ball Test: Follow LIVE Updates

IND-W vs AUS-W LIVE – Smriti Mandhana 80*: The first day ended with India on 132-1 and Mandhana and Punam Raut unbeaten on 80 and 16 respectively. The only wicket that fell was of Shafali Verma in the opening session. Rain had forced an early call for tea before the day was eventually called off. The remaining days of the ongoing pink-ball Test will begin 30 minutes earlier.

IND-W vs AUS-W LIVE: Resuming the second session at 101/1, the visitors managed to add 13 more runs before rain once again interrupted play. No more play was possible in the second session and the players had to remain off the park for the rest of the day.

Earlier, India openers Mandhana and Shafali brought out their attacking game to the middle to frustrate Australia in the opening session. Sent into bat, the visitors got off to a rollicking start as openers Shafali and Mandhana put on 43 runs inside the first ten overs.

Mandhana made full use of wide deliveries being bowled to her and she kept on dispatching the loose balls for boundaries. She kept on marching ahead and brought up her half-century in the 15th over of the innings. This was Mandhana’s third score of fifty-plus in Test cricket. In the first two overs, Australia’s fielding was dismal, to say the least, as they dropped quite a few chances and both openers got quite a few reprieves.

The 93-run opening stand finally came to an end in the 26th over as Sophie Molineux sent Shafali (31) back to the pavilion. In the end, Mandhana and Raut ensured that the visitors do not lose any more wickets before the interval.

IND-W vs AUS-W LIVE Day 1 Highlights:

IND-W vs AUS-W LIVE – Smriti Mandhana 80*: Smriti Mandhana was elegance personified during her sublime unbeaten half-century as India made a solid start, reaching 101 for 1 at the dinner break on the first day of their one-off Day/Night pink ball Test against Australia here on Thursday.

Mandhana, who peppered the off-side field repeatedly with some gorgeous shots to reach 64 off 112 balls with 13 boundaries, added 93 for the opening stand with Shafali Verma (31 off 64 balls), who played the second fiddle during their partnership.

The Australian team’s decision to field first after laying a green strip for the visitors did seem to backfire as Mandhana attacked them straightaway during the first hour of play.In fact, it was a case of role reversal which perhaps caught the Australians off-guard as Shafali was more intent on playing defensive game as her senior partner attacked with great gusto.

Debutant Darcie Brown got some special punishment as Mandhana hit her for a number of boundaries both on the off-side as well as a few whip shots on the leg-side.

Ellyse Perry also took a few overs to find the right length as the elegant left-hander reached her run-a-ball fifty in no time with a cover drive of Tahlia McGrath.

Whenever Mandhana bisected between point and cover or cover or mid-off, it was the most pleasant sight.

IND-W vs AUS-W LIVE – Smriti Mandhana 80*In case of Shafali, she did hit four boundaries but also looked a bit scratchy having offered a couple of chances — one to Meg Lanning in the slips which was a reflex catch and the other to Annabel Sutherland stationed at mid-on

Finally she was gone trying to hit left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux against the turn and offered a sitter to McGrath at mid-off.

Mandhana’s innings had two parts — while the first fifty came at break neck speed, the next 14 runs took 62 deliveries as she played the defensive game till lunch in the company of Punam Raut (1 batting).
