IND-W vs AUS-W: Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry created history on Saturday as she showed glimpses of her best on day two of her 250th match for Australia. Perry picked her 300th wicket in international cricket — across all three formats of the game. As a result, the Australian all-rounder is now the first woman cricketer to have achieved the double of 5,000 runs and 300 wickets in international cricket.

Ellyse Perry brought up the record as she dismissed Pooja Vastrakar in the 143rd over of the ongoing pink-ball Test against India in Queensland. The Australian has been a fantastic servant of the women’s game and is a true all-rounder, contributing effectively with both ball and bat in hand. In ODIs, Perry has 3,135 runs to her credit along with 152 wickets. While in the shortest format, the all-rounder has 1,243 runs along with 115 wickets.

Incidentally, Ellyse Perry was the first player to amass a combined 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in T20Is. The 30-year-old currently holds the record for the highest score by an Australian woman (213 not out) in the Test format and was the third player to claim 150 wickets in women’s ODIs. Perry has scored 624 runs in eight Test matches, 3107 runs in 115 ODIs, and 1243 runs in 123 T20Is with a staggering average of 78 in the longest format of the game. Her average in the ODI stands at 51.78.

The visitors eventually declared at 377/8, thanks to Deepti Sharma’s scintillating half-century, after Smriti Mandhana’s record-breaking ton. Australia will need Perry to put in a shift with the bat, as they look to plug away at India’s total.
