India Women Team’s star opener Shafali Varma has been dropped from the India Playing XI for the IND W vs AUS W 2nd ODI. After a string of poor performances, the youngster finds herself on the bench while vice captain Smriti Mandhana makes her return to the team.
The Australian Women powered their way to win the 1st ODI by 6 wickets after failing disastrously in the one-off Test match. In the previous game, Shafali Varma departed for a poor 1 run knock from 5 balls.
Shafali Varma’s poor form continues for quite sometime. She slammed 40 runs in the 1st innings of the Test and managed just 4 runs in the second innings. On the other hand, Smriti Mandhana missed the first ODI after being sick makes a return to the India Playing XI.
“We wanted to bowl first, get the wickets. Good that we have got that. We discussed about having right field placements and at the same time we need to bring the energy back. These are the things we need to work on. Two changes – Smriti is back in place of Shafali and Shreyanka comes in for Saika Ishaque,” said Harmanpreet Kaur after the Toss.
