IND W vs AUS W 2nd ODI: Aussies win series with a match to spare

Australia put up a target of 259 while batting first but India lost wickets at regular intervals to hand the series to the Aussies.

Australia Women on Saturday won the IND W vs AUS W ODI series with a match to spare when Alyssa Healy’s side won the IND W vs AUS W second ODI by 3 runs. Australia put up a target of 259 while batting first. India lost wickets at regular intervals to hand the series to the Aussies.

Alyssa Healy’s Australia got off to a good start in the IND W vs AUS W 2nd ODI. Although Healy’s poor run of form continued, Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry once again proved rock-solid in the middle, getting a good partnership going for the first wicket. However, Deepti Sharma provided the much-needed breakthrough for India by taking the wicket of Perry, but not before she scored another half-century.

Beth Mooney departed soon afterwards, becoming Deepti’s second wicket when she was trapped in front of the stumps. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals for the Aussies from then onwards, with Deepti Sharma wreaking havoc. The Aussies ultimately posted a total of 258 on board, which appeared quite a probable target for India to achieve.

Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, taking a fifer against the Aussies to produce best-ever figure by an Indian woman against the Australia in ODIs.

India started their chase brightly, with Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh building a good partnership. However, Smriti Mandhana’s departure created problems for India, although incoming Jemimah Rodrigues continued her good form to build a strong partnership with Richa Ghosh. However, a wonderful one-handed catch by Phoebe Litchfield resulted in Jemimah Rodrigues’ dismissal. Harmanpreet Kaur’s poor run with the bat continued, but Richa Ghosh stood strong in the other end to keep India in the hunt. However, Richa’s innings came to an end on 96, making India’s chase steeper.

Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar tried until the end to bring India home, but it was not to be. India ultimately fell short by 3 runs as Australia won the ODI series with a match to spare.
