Chasing a total of 142, India all but secured the match with an opening partnership of 137 runs between Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana.

The Indian Women on Friday produced a dazzling display to dominate their Australian counterparts in the IND W vs AUS W 1st T20I. India won the match comfortably by 9 wickets, with openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma starring in the 142-run chase.

The Indian women started on a bright note after winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Australian captain Alyssa Healy’s poor form with the bat continued, as she departed early. The next three wickets fell for just five runs as Australia stared at a humiliating defeat. Indian bowler Titas Sadhu, playing in only her fourth T20I, ran riot through Australia’s middle order. Australia were reeling 33/4 when Ellyse Perry and in-form batter Phoebe Litchfield once again came to India’s rescue.

The duo stitched a 79 run partnership to pull the Aussies out of trouble. Litchfield fell just one run short of a 50, Courtesy of the duo’s partnership, Australia posted a respectable total of 141 on the board.

Indian speedster Titas Sadhu was the pick of the bowlers among Indians, with the Bengal pacer picking up four wickets in only her fourth T20Is.

Chasing a total of 142, India got off to a flying start with an opening partnership of 137 runs between Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. The latter completed 3000 runs in T20 cricket, becoming only the sixth batter in the world to achieve this feat. The duo took the game away from the Aussies from the the very start, frustrating Alyssa Healy’s side with their strategic stroke play. When Smriti Mandhana got out, India needed 5 runs to win.
