India Women’s Team on Thursday put up a solid batting performance in the IND W vs AUS W 1st ODI. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team put up a score of 282. Opener Yastika Bhatia and middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues helped India put up the formidable total, but it was Pooja Vastrakar whose brisk innings of 62 of 46 ball towards the end ensured India crossed the 280-mark.

Playing only in the 28th ODI of her career, Pooja came to bat number 9 at a time when India faced the difficult task of accelerating towards the end of the innings. Jemimah Rodrigues and Pooja Vastrakar started taking on the Aussie bowling attack. The duo put on 68 runs for the 9th wicket, before Jemimah departed in the 46th over. Pooja was left with the difficult task of ending the Indian innings well. She delivered, and how!
The right-handed batter played some exquisite shots to bring up her 4th 50 in the ODIs. Her 62-run innings was studded by seven 4s and two 6s that ensured India reached the total of 282.
With this gutsy innings, Pooja’s batting order will be a thing to discuss within the Indian think tank. If Pooja can deliver innings like these coming so far down the order, maybe it is time to move her up the order and see what Pooja has to offer.
