IND W vs AUS W 1st ODI: Aussies notch up easy victory over Harmanpreet Kaur and co

Alyssa Healy's Australia take the lead in the three-match ODI series.

The Australian Women on Thursday took an early advantage in the IND W vs AUS W ODI series. Alyssa Healy’s side notched up a convincing victory in the first match of the three-match series, chasing 282 with 21 balls to spare.

Indian women won the toss and chose to bat first. Although India lost Shafali Verma early, Yastika Bhatia ensured India stayed on the path to score a big total. After losing the wickets of Richa Ghosh and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma consolidated the Indian innings. Yastika departed at 49 but not before leaving a lasting impact in the match. Jemimah was the star of the show, maintaining her red hot form to score 82 of just 77 balls.

However, India still needed to finish the innings well to ensure they posted a formidable total on board, and out came Pooja Vastrakar. Pooja, batting at number 9, came out all guns blazing, taking the attack to the Aussie bowling line-up. The all-rounder smashed seven 4s and two 6s on her way unbeaten 62 to ensure India had a decent total on board.

The Aussie bowling line-up could do little to stem India’s runs, with almost all the bowlers maintaining an economy rate close to 5. Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham were the pick of the bowlers, picking up two wickets each.

Though the Aussies lost captain Alyssa Healy early, Ellyse Perry and Phoebe Litchfield kept the runs flowing. The duo formed a partnership of 148 runs before Perry departed for 75 runs. Litchfield departed soon after, as India looked to crawl back into the match.

However, Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath had other plans. The duo picked up right from where Perry and Litchfield left up, The duo stitched up a partnership of 88 runs to take the game away from the Indians. In the end, The Australians won by 6 wickets, chasing their target with balls to spare.
