IND-W U19 WC Champions: India women’s under-19 skipper Shafali Verma couldn’t hold back her tears after India won the inaugural edition of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. While talking to the presenter Shafali had to stop her interview to soak at the moment giving an indication of how she felt about leading the country to its first-ever women’s ICC title in history. When Shafali came for the presentation ceremony after the match, she had a broad smile on her face, but she struggled to control her emotions. Tears rolled down her cheeks and she wiped them off while still having a smile of joy on her face. Shafali thanked her teammates and the coaching staff for their support during the World Cup. She also conveyed her appreciation to the BCCI for their unwavering support. “I’m really delighted with how all the girls are performing and supporting each other,” she remarked.

After being put in to bat first, England was bowled out for 68 in 17.1 overs. Four of their batters got into double digits, but none could carry on. Ryana MacDonald-Gay was the leading run-scorer as she scored 19 runs off 24 balls and looked dangerous for a brief while.

Titas Sadhu was the pick of the Indian bowlers after she finished with stupendous figures of 4-0-6-2. Archana Devi and Parshavi Chopra also got two wickets apiece. Mannat Kashyap, Shafali, and Sonam Yadav picked up one wicket apiece as well.

India chased down the target with six overs to spare. Hannah Baker, Grace Scrivens, and Alexa Stonehouse picked up one wicket apiece. Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha scored 24 runs apiece for India.

Soumya hit the winning runs for India in the last ball of the 14th over. Shweta Sehrawat, who finished as the top run-getter of the tournament, failed to cross the single digits. Shafali hit one four and a six on his way to 15 runs. Now under-19 team skipper Shafali Verma eyeing winning the World Cup title with the senior team.
