India set for 5-match T20I series against Zimbabwe 7 days after T20 WC Final

IND vs ZIM T20 series could see a new T20 captain succeeding Rohit Sharma irrespective of the result in T20 World Cup 2024.

India Cricket Team will play another “meaningless” T20 series seven days after the T20 World Cup 2024. Immediately after T20 WC, India will tour Zimbabwe for a long five-match IND vs ZIM T20 series, Zimbabwe Cricket announced on Tuesday.

T20 World Cup Final will take place on June 29. And the IND vs ZIM T20 series begins on July 6 in Harare. The series will conclude on July 14.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting India for a T20I series in July. It will be our biggest international attraction at home this year. The significance and magnitude of this tour cannot be over-emphasised, especially as it is coming at a time we are working round the clock to re-establish ourselves as a force to reckon with at the highest level of the game,” Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani was quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

New T20I captain in IND vs ZIM?

Even though Rohit Sharma has ended T20I exile ahead of T20 World Cup 2024, it is likely to be his last tournament as India captain.

Team India could see a new captain taking over for the IND vs ZIM T20 series.

Hardik Pandya is the prime contender to take over from Rohit Sharma. Before Rohit returned to retake the captaincy job in T20Is, Hardik led India in 16 matches. With Hardik injured, Suryakumar Yadav also led India.

However, it is likely that BCCI will rest most of the players from the T20 WC squad. And hence, India could travel to Zimbabwe with a young squad based on IPL performance.
