Spirited Zimbabwe ready for India challenge
Zimbabwe are enjoying a sort of revival in the recent time and qualified for the T20 World Cup and will present India a stern challenge as he stated, “Don’t take us lightly, we can beat India.
“Our bowling and fielding is as good as its been even before my time. On top of that, we have some batters who are really expressing themselves.
“It’s all going well at the moment, but it will be a huge test against India because we are playing the strongest side in the world. But I would still expect us to put up a good performance and compete really well.”
Speaking on the form of star man Sikandar Raza he added, “Obviously having somebody like Raza in the form that he has been is amazing. You also put together with that because having one player in that sort of form brings courage to the rest of the team.
“You suddenly get Innocent Kaia scoring a great hundred and then Regis Chakbva gets his first ODI hundred in the next match and that’s a good innings I have seen from anybody in this country,” Houghton concluded.
Zimbabwe’s recent resurgence under Houghton
- India will have big task in hand when they play Bangladesh as they try to keep their slightest hopes alive for the ODI World Cup qualification
- Despite winning the ODI series against Bangladesh they face an uphill task to qualify for the ODI World Cup in India, with series against India and Australia.
- With six games remaining of the ODI Super League for the hosts, they are unlikely to make direct qualification while playoff qualifications will see them face Sri Lanka or South Africa or both
- However, Houghton has completed one bid of the situation where he has led them to T20 World Cup qualification.
