IND vs ZIM LIVE: Shikhar Dhawan has set his eyes on the 2023 World Cup at home as the southpaw prepares for India’s tour of Zimbabwe. Now 36, the 2023 World Cup could be Shikhar Dhawan’s final shot at glory and the Indian opener is leaving no stone unturned in his preparations for the same. One of India’s top performer’s in global 50-over competitions, Dhawan revealed that his sole focus remains on the landmark tournament and home and will continue to play IPL and domestic cricket to be match fit for the same.

In an interview with the Times of India, Dhawan said, “My focus is definitely on next year’s 50-overs World Cup and for that, I want to play as many matches as possible for India and do well in them. In between, there is the IPL as well, so I will try to continue to perform there and look to play the domestic one-day and T20 matches and keep myself match-fit and ready.”

Dhawan was India’s highest run-getter in the 2015 World Cup, the 2013 Champions Trophy and the 2017 Champions Trophy. He was in top form in the 2019 World Cup but had to withdraw midway through the competition due to injury. The left-handed veteran said that he loved playing in ICC tournaments and handled pressure well which has helped his record.

He said, “I love playing in ICC tournaments. There is always a different feeling and satisfaction and I’ve had some very good tournaments in the past. I prepare and approach every tournament exactly the same way. Every time I wear the Indian jersey, pressure is always there and the thing is, as an experienced player, I know how to handle pressure.”

Dhawan added, “The buzz definitely helps, because it adds motivation to my game. I don’t get over-awed by the moment, because my focus, process, and preparation is the same for any tournament I am playing in.”
