Shubman Gill was retained at the top of the order and the decision paid dividends as he put on a fine partnership with Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order. Chasing 190 to win, Gill and Dhawan remained unbeaten to help Zimbabwe to a 10-wicket win in Harare.

The Indian openers got off to a slow start before ramping up the pace, piercing the gaps all around the ground on Thursday. Dhawan played the anchor while Gill went out on the attack. The duo have enjoyed their company batting together, with this being their third-century partnership in four innings.

Deepak Chahar’s GRAND Comeback: Along with Gill & Shikhar – Pacer Deepak Chahar was the star for India on Thursday. Chahar made an impressive comeback to international cricket with an incisive spell.

Donning the blue jersey for the first time in six months after a long injury lay-off, Chahar hit the straps right away. The Chennai Super Kings pacer took figures of 3/27. His spell was instrumental in India restricting Zimbabwe to a sub-par 189 in just 40.3 overs.

It didn’t take long for Chahar to find his rhythm on a Harare Sports Club track that offered steep bounce. The balmy morning conditions aided quality swing bowling.

He was well supported by Mohammed Siraj (1/36), who worked up brisk pace while bowling the ideal ‘Test match length’.

Prasidh Krishna (3/50) and Axar Patel (3/24) also got their share of middle and lower-order victims while Kuldeep Yadav (0/36) was restrictive despite going wicket-less.
