Will Shreyas Iyer sit out when Kohli returns?
With Virat Kohli rested for the West Indies and Zimbabwe series, there are places up for grabs. Shreyas Iyer has impressed for the team during the WestIndies tour and has scored 44, 53, and 64 runs during the tour. Shreyas’s form makes him an integral part of the current set-up, but when Virat Kohli returns back into the team he may well have to warm the bench.
The Indian team is also using string of options at the opening slot to accommodate Virat in the team. If the current situation and form continues, Dravid and Rohit will have a good headache to solve.
KL Rahul Fitness
Vice-captain KL Rahul’s comeback from a groin injury was further halted as the 30-year-old missed out on his fourth successive series. It was expected, selectors may include him for the Zimbabwe tour to give some match practice before Asia Cup. But owing to fitness issues, he again was ruled out of the series.
Rahul hasn’t played for India since March. He was set to feature in the T20Is against West Indies, but a COVID-19 positive test ruled him out of action.
If he also comes in the team, there will again be a big issue of accommodating players that have been in form. India has also tried 12 different opening pairs in the T20 format.

Chahal confirmed as 1st spinner – but Ashwin or Kuldeep who takes the 2nd SPINNER SLOT?
As things stand, Yuzvendra Chahal is the first choice option for the Indian team, while there is still room for a second spinner in the team. While Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are the front-runners for the post, Ravichandran Ashwin is also part of the set-up having been included in the Indian team for the T20 series against WestIndies.
If the Ashwin and Kuldeep impress in the T20 series against the WestIndies, it will be another issue the team will have to look into. Currently it is safe to say that Chahal remains the only option that is guaranteed to start in the T20 World Cup.
Will Deepak Chahar partner Hardik Pandya as second choice all-rounder?
Deepak Chahar has been recalled into the Indian side for the Zimbabwe tour after a back injury kept him away form the game. He was one of the impressive players for India ahead of Shardul Thakur in the Indian team prior to the IPL 2022. However, a back issue forced him to sit out the entire IPL season and was ruled out for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
If he does prove his worth in the upcoming Zimbabwe tour and is fit to go, the slot will be another option where Rahul Dravid and Team management will have to pay close attention. With Hardik Pandya’s impressive form for the last few months, Pandya is guaranteed starter. but the question who will partner him as the second choice all-rounder?
