- Both the teams have faced each other 133 times in ODIs so far.
- There is not much of a difference between the two sides as India has won 64 games while West Indies tasted victories in 63 matches. Two games ended in a tie and four matches had no result.
- In India, they have played 58 times with India winning 29 matches while West Indies are just behind, having won 28 matches while one game ended in a tie.
- But the majority of West Indies’ victories came in the early 80s and 90s. In the past decade, India has dominated completely.
- Since 2011, both the teams met on 38 occasions, with India winning 26 games while West Indies managed to win just 9 games.

- However, the Narendra Modi Stadium has been the favourite hunting ground for the visitors as they have won 4 matches out of the five that they have played at this venue.
- India’s only victory at this ground came under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly in 2002.
- The two teams last met at this venue more than a decade ago on 5th December 2011. West Indies scored 260 in the first innings and restricted India to 244, winning the game by 16 runs.
Team India enters into this series after facing a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of South Africa last month. While West Indies too faced a shocking 2-1 defeat against Ireland at home in their last ODI series. India will start a new era under the full-time captaincy of Rohit Sharma from this series and will look to start on a positive note.
