IND vs WI LIVE: Ajit Agarkar says Rohit Sharma-led India favourites but MIDDLE-ORDER big problem

”Finisher’s role in ODI is very important but since MS Dhoni’s retirement we haven’t got anyone who could fit in that role,” Rohit Sharma said on the eve of the first ODI against the West Indies.

”We have tried Hardik, even Jadeja has played but we need to create more back-ups for that slot. The boys who will be getting chance in the series, hopefully, they will utilise those chances and consolidate their position in the team. A finisher bats at a crucial phase, and often, his contribution could be a game-changer,” the skipper said.

Shardul Thakur

  • Ex-CSK allrounder Shardul Thakur was phenomenal with the bat during the India Tour of South Africa.
  • He scored unbeaten innings of 50 & 40 against quality bowlers. However, he failed to deliver with the bowl.
  • He managed to scalp a single wicket against in the ODI series which remains a concern for Men in Blues.
  • At times, he can deliver in only one department of the game.
  • The absence of Hardik Pandya gives Shardul a golden chance to solidify his place in Indian Cricket Team.

Deepak Chahar

  • Unlike Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar has made the most of the moments during his recent outings in the Blue jersey.
  • He recently slammed 34-ball 54 and grabbed a couple of wickets in a lone opportunity against South Africa.
  • He had earlier played a match-winning knock of unbeaten 68 runs along with two wickets to help Shikhar Dhawan-led India beat Sri Lanka last year.
  • He has grown from strength to strength as a weapon for powerplays besides batting prowess that he has developed over the last few months.

Washington Sundar

  • Washington Sundar is likely to be given the opportunity amid India’s weak middle-order to ensure Team India bat deep.
  • He was brilliant in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after injury cut short his IPL 2021 Phase 2 and T20 World Cup.
  • He will have put runs on the board and also scalp wickets which he failed to do in his only ODI against Sri Lanka in 2017.
  • He is also short of wickets in T20Is, where has managed just 25 wickets in 31 matches.
