“I have managed to grab the attention of the selectors. If you had asked me a year back, I would have said I am not. ready, but if you ask me now, I will say ‘yes, I am prepared to don the India jersey’. I am ready now. I can say this with my head held high,” Shahrukh Khan told TOI.

The Tamil Nadu batsman has been included in India’s squad as a backup player for the bilateral series against West Indies, alongside R Sai Kishore. Rohit Sharma’s men will play three ODIs and as many T20Is against the Caribbean Boys.

Shahrukh’s inclusion should not come as a surprise, as he has consistently been delivering match-winning performances in the domestic circuit and had a fantastic 2021/22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 101 runs at a strike rate of 157.81. He played a blinder of knock in the final, scoring 33 runs from 15 deliveries, which helped his team get their hands on the title.

He also opened up on how former cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni inspired him by stating “I idolize MS Dhoni and want to finish games the way he did for India. I have always looked up to Dhoni and I want to become a finisher like him.”
I was comfortable at Punjab Kings: Shahrukh Khan
Given his recent exploits for his state team, Shahrukh is expected to fetch a mega-money bid in the IPL 2022 mega auction, which will be held on 12th and 13th February at Bengaluru. Though the Chennai lad did not name his preferred destination, he opened up on his time at Punjab Kings.

“I was really comfortable there (at Punjab Kings). The coaching staff of Anil Kumble, Wasim Jaffer, Jonty Rhodes, and everyone else was so supportive. I learned a lot there. I remember Anil sir coming to me and saying he is confident that I will do well. I was comfortable from the start at Punjab Kings,” Shahrukh Khan said.
