IND vs WI Live: Why this T20 series against West Indies make or break for five India players?

  • Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Suryakumar Yadav, Chahal, and Kishan are the players who have sealed their places for the T20 World Cup.
  • With 13 T20 matches to go, Iyer, Hooda, Yadav Karthik, and Arshdeep have a GOLDEN CHANCE to seal their places against WestIndies
  • If these five players perform well, then it will be hard for BCCI selectors to look beyond them.

1. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer was the toast of the nation due to his heroic performance against Sri Lanka in the three-match T20 series in April. He scored three fifties and was named player of the series. But a mixed IPL followed and an even disastrous five-match T20 series against South Africa have left him on a slippery note. The right-hand batter could not even a score single fifty against South Africa.

Iyer played only one T20I against England and managed to score 28 runs. Against West Indies, he has now a chance to seal the place for the T20 World Cup. The 28-year-old is in good form against them in the ODI series as he has scored two fifties. He likes playing against them and the five T20Is could be the perfect way for him to make a statement.

2. Deepak Hooda

Hooda has grabbed his opportunities in whatever limited opportunities he has been presented with. The all-rounder has played 4 T20Is and has scored 205 runs including a century against Ireland. The 27-year-old is not yet certainty in the T20 World Cup. With Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja fighting for that spin bowling all-rounder spot, Hooda will yet again has to deliver against West Indies.

The advantage that LSG all-rounder has is he is batting all-rounder, unlike Axar and Jadeja. Hooda can cash that onto his stride and will aim to deliver big with the bat in hand.

3. Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav 2.0 made the right noises in the IPL 2022 season by scalping 21 wickets for Delhi capitals. He won four man-of-the-match awards. The chainaman was at his deadly best and bamboozled top teams with his top-notch bowling. He was also called into the national team for the T20 series against South Africa. An injury though derailed his plans. The youngster though has recovered from injury and is back in the team for the West Indies series.

He has a chance to now make a real impression and seal his place for the T20 World Cup. West Indies batters are not good players of spin and Yadav can make most of that. With Chahal locked in as the specialist leg spinner for WOrld Cup, Kuldeep has to fight for other remaining spots with other candidates.

4. Dinesh Karthik

RCB’s designated finisher Karthik sizzled in IPL by scoring over 300 runs at a strike rate of 190. He also impressed in the 5 T20Is against South Africa. He scored a fifty in the fourth T20I and finished the match with finesse and class. But against England, Karthik could not fire. 6, 12, and 11 were his scores in the 3 T20Is against England. Three low scores have pegged the veteran a back little. With Hardik Pandya and Jadeja all but sealed the spot for the T20 World Cup, Karthik has to finish matches against West Indies.

Also, Rishabh Pant is all but the designated wicketkeeper of India for the showpiece event. So Karthik will only be selected as a pure batter for the World Cup.

5. Arshdeep Singh

Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh impressed one and all in IPL 2022 with his death bowling skills. He conceded runs at 7.38 runs per over and was difficult to get away with left-arm angle. The 21-year-old also made his debut against England and picked up 2 wickets and only gave 5.14 runs per over. Against West Indies, the PBKS bowler has a chance to be in the team along with other pacers like Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar, Harshal, and Hardik.
