All-rounder Axar Patel showed incredible intent while batting after the team was struggling. Axar scored an unbeaten match-winning knock of 64 runs off 34 balls, including five sixes and three fours. Apart from him, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson each scored significant half-centuries and added 99 runs to an important stand at a time when India were in trouble after losing three early wickets.
Earlier in the first innings, Shai Hope, who struck a century (115 runs off 135 balls), and Nicholas Pooran, who scored 74 runs off 77 balls destroyed the Indian bowling. Together, they helped the West Indies amass 311 runs. For India, spinners Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Axar each scalped three wickets, with Shardul Thakur claiming the other three.
