The 23-year-old was in fine touch at Port of Spain building a strong foundation for India. Gill initially took his time, but laced his innings with occasional boundaries. He eventually reached his half-century off just 60 deliveries. After his fifty, Shubman took the attack to the West Indian bowlers, building a strong partnership with Shreyas Iyer.
Gill’s march to century was halted, much to the Indian opener’s frustration. batting on 98, sudden showers meant that India’s inning was halted and the game was reduced to 35 overs per side. The Gujarat Titans star was visibly distraught, dragging himself off the pitch, being the last to walk into the dressing room.
Speaking after the game, Shubman Gill said, “Was hoping to get a hundred, but that (rain) was not under my control. Was very disappointed how I got out in the first two ODIs. I tried to play according to the ball and let the instincts take over. I wanted only one more over, was hoping for that. The wicket played fantastically in all the three games. The ball was gripping a bit after 30 overs.”
