IND vs WA-XI Highlights: India T20 WC Squad: Yuzvendra Chahal’s spot in Indian Playing XI for T20 World Cup is now under clear threat. His biggest competitor in the team, Ravichandran Ashwin made a statement, bagging three wickets in the 2nd practice match. In his 3/32 spell, all wickets came in the same over as Ashwin rattled Western Australia XI. While India did lose the match, Ashwin’s performance now is a big positive for Team India. Chahal hasn’t really been at his best in the recent past. The leggie has more often than not, leaked runs in the middle overs and hasn’t been able to take wickets. Ashwin wasn’t at his best in the first three overs though. He conceded 30 without any scalps in his first three. Often criticised for defensive bowling in T20 cricket, Ashwin turned things around, removing Cameron Bancroft, Ashton Turner and Sam Fanning in a space of four deliveries. If he continues his excellent show against Australia and New Zealand in the next two official warm-up matches, he will very well replace Yuzvendra Chahal in the Playing XI against Pakistan on October 23.

During his final over, the 36-year-old only gave away two runs, while picking the wickets of Turner, Sam Fanning and Jason Behrendorff. Taking into account Yuzvendra Chahal’s topsy-turvy form, Ashwin’s performance comes as a massive boost to the Rohit Sharma-led side. Besides, if India are to do well in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, then their spinners will have to regularly pick wickets in the middle overs.

Hence, A likely scenario could be only including one of Ashwin or Chahal in the final XI. This could mean that Chahal would miss out on a spot and be replaced by Ashwin. As far as the second practice match is concerned, India had won the toss and decided to field first.
Western Australia managed to score 168 in their stipulated 20 overs and lost eight wickets in the process. The likes of Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh had a good outing as well.
