IND vs SL: KL Rahul vs Ishan Kishan – It will be a direct shootout between Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul for the wicketkeepers’ slot in the ODI series against Sri Lanka starting on January 10. Rahul is back in the ODI team, the right-hand batter was also doing the wicketkeeping duties in the last ODI series against Bangladesh. Kishan did a good job behind the stumps in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. The southpaw pulled off a few special catches and looked compact against spinners. On the other hand, Rahul has long been looked up to as an ODI wicketkeeper owing to the balance he provides in the team. With the LSG skipper playing as the keeper batter, India can go in with an extra batter or bowler.

IND vs SL: Who will Rohit go as the wicketkeeper batter?

Rahul has been trusted as a wicketkeeper batter in ODIs by Rohit Sharma for the last two years. When Rishabh Pant is not playing, the Karnataka player is the team’s wicketkeeper batter in ODIs. Rahul’s form though is a concern for management. While in the ODIs, the LSG skipper has marginally well than T20Is and Test formats, consistency is one area he needs to work on.

“We haven’t played a lot of ODIs in the last 8-9 months, but if you look at 2020-21, I have kept wickets, and I have batted at Nos 4 and 5. This is the role that the team has asked me to be ready for in white-ball cricket as I have done it before,” Rahul said.

As for Kishan, he offers team a let-hand option at the top. The southpaw also had a scored double hundred in the last ODI game against Bangladesh. Kishan might not be dropped owing to that stupendous knock, but will be the wicketkeeper in the ODI series against Sri Lanka is the big question.

IND vs SL: Rahul vs Kishan, who has more edge to play as a wicketkeeper batter?

  • Rahul has been looked at as a keeper batter in the ODI team. With Rishabh Pant out of action for nine months, it remains to be seen whether Rohit sticks to the ploy.
  • With Suryakumar Yadav still not hitting the straps in ODI, Rahul is a vital player in the middle order.
  • Kishan has not batted in the middle order often in ODIs, as the southpaw is looked at as an opener.
  • With Gill scoring over 600 in just 15 ODIs, Rohit would like to back GT opener more.
  • Kishan’s double hundred in the last ODI match might spice things up.
