Soon after the Bangladesh ODI series, Ishan Kishan returned to India and is playing in the Ranji Trophy. He was named in Jharkhand’s first game of the season against Kerala. It was his first First-class match after more than a year. After Kerala scored 475 runs in the first innings, Jharkhand didn’t get off to a good start. They lost four wickets for 114 runs.
Ishan Kishan walked in at this moment. He continued from where he left off after his brilliant double century in Chattogram, Bangladesh. He went on to play a crucial knock, smashing a century off 166 balls.
However he couldn’t convert his century to a big one and got out after scoring 132 off 195 balls. His knock comprised 9 fours and 8 sixes. Performances like these augurs well for the lad from Jharkhand. He has now emerged as the prime candidate for the openers slot in ODIs for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

- An injury to skipper Rohit Sharma gave him an opportunity. He was named in India’s playing XI against Bangladesh in the final ODI of the recently concluded ODI series.
- He grabbed the opportunity with both hands smashing a swashbuckling double-century opening the innings.
- With the knock he became the fourth Indian to score an ODI double hundred.
- He was also the youngest player in the World to score an ODI doubles ton. He was also the quickest to reach the magical figures.
With his performance, Shikhar Dhawan’s place is under fire. The 36-year old opener’s recent form hasn’t looked great. In the last five ODIs, he scored just 49 runs, with a high score of 28. Another main problem with Dhawan has been a sharp decline in his strike rate. From 100 plus till the 2019 World Cup it has now dropped to a dismal 75 in 2022.
The upcoming limited overs series against Sri Lanka is all set to begin from 3rd January 2023. The series will begin with three T20I matches. After that, the three-match ODI series will kickstart on 10th January Barsapara Stadium, Cuttack.
