IND vs SL: Ravi Shastri backs Gautam Gambhir to do great job as new India head coach

IND vs SL: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri backs Gautam Gambhir to do a good job as new head for the Men in Blue

Gautam Gambhir will be taking charge of the India Cricket Team starting with the India vs Sri Lanka series (IND vs SL). Ahead of his stint, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has backed Gambhir claiming that the latter will come out with fresh ideas. Shastri even claimed that he is excited to see how Gambhir performs in his new endeavor.

Gautam Gambhir hasn’t managed any cricket team previously. Back in IPL 2022 and 2023 he served as the mentor for Lucknow Super Giants. LSG made it comfortably through to the knockouts on both occasions. Last season he switched trades to join Kolkata Knight Riders. And under his mentorship KKR lifted the coveted IPL 2024 title.

“He’s contemporary, he just had a great season in the IPL. I think he’s the right age where he’s young, he’ll come with fresh ideas. He knows most of the players, especially in the white-ball format, having been part of teams in the IPL. So I think it’s refreshing,” Shastri said The ICC Review.

And now after the heroics of ICC T20 World Cup, Rahul Dravid left his spot. And it was Gautam Gambhir who came in to replace the legend. Ravi Shastri claims that since Gambhir is young, he will come into the side with fresh ideas. Furthermore, he claimed that Gambhir is an no-nonsense guy and will do well to handle his mature side.

Young and with Fresh ideas!

India was a force to recon with under the Shastri era. And now Shastri has gone on to back Gautam Gambhir. The Gambhir era is set to begin when India take on Sri Lanka in the upcoming IND vs SL T20I series.

“And we know with Gautam, he’s a no-nonsense guy. He’ll have his ideas as well. And the good thing for him is he’s got a mature team. He’s got a settled team, a mature team. I think even though you might think you’re mature, you might benefit from some fresh ideas. So I think it’ll be interesting times. Obviously, player management becomes the key as a coach. So it’ll be interesting to see how he goes. I think he’s got the tools, he’s got the goods for the job and he’s got the experience,” he concluded.
