India vs Sri Lanka: Stakes are high

With just a victory, the Indian cricket team can now officially look forward to playing in the World Cup semifinals. For Rohit Sharma, though, the goal is clear-cut. The Men in Blue will be desperate for a rematch of the IND vs. SL Asia Cup Final in 2023.

A Mohammed Siraj masterclass destroyed the Lankans, and the Indian openers reached the 50-run mark in just 7 overs to guarantee a convincing victory for the Men in Blue.

There is little doubt that the stakes in this impending fight are different. With a perfect World Cup record, India comfortably leads the points standings with 12 points, while Sri Lanka is in sixth place with 4. When Mohammed Siraj went on to claim a six-fer by conceding just 21 runs, he achieved his best-ever ODI statistics.

While Siraj has performed admirably in the World Cup, taking wickets at regular intervals, he has not yet been able to duplicate the fierce bowling he displayed in the Asis Cup finals.

However, the Indian batting lineup has proven to be very trustworthy. The two mainstays of India’s batting lineup, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, have performed admirably in the World Cup.
