The incident took place on the 2nd over of the match after India decided to bat first after winning the toss. A back of a full-length delivery by Viswa Fernando hit the pads of Mayank Agarwal. Sri Lankan’s appeal for an LBW was dismissed after the delivery was deemed as a no-ball. However, Agarwal cheekily tried to take a run when the ball went to the covers and was short of his crease when keeper Niroshan Dickwella first reviewed for referral and then clipped the bails for run-out.
What certainly raises the question is that isn’t the rule that when a review is taken the ball is dead? Amidst all the drama and the controversy, it was ultimately a bizarre dismissal as a batter is deemed run out in the case of a no-ball. However, the question still remains as to ‘Would have been a dead ball, if he was the captain’?
Chasing a record-second consecutive clean-sweep, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Axar Patel made a comeback in place of Jayant Yadav. As for Playing XI, India has made only one change. Axar Patel comes in place of Jayant Yadav.
India Playing XI: Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma(c), Hanuma Vihari, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah
