Team India struggled for the second consecutive game at the death with a lower middle order collapse hurting their chances of posting a huge total on the board. After Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav laid the platform for the rest of the batting to follow, the likes of Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda were dismissed cheaply.
India managed only 38 runs in the last four overs, with Pant and Hardik Pandya both scoring 17 each. The duo, tasked with taking the opposition bowlers to the cleaners, managed to score at a strike rate of 130.76. Hooda, who came in at No.7, scored just three, despite receiving a lucky break via a no-ball.

Against Pakistan in the previous game, India had scored only 88 in the last 10 overs with Virat Kohli running out of support. Pant and Deepak Hooda scored at a strike rate of less than 120, while Hardik was out for a two-ball duck in Dubai. In both instances, India fell 10-15 runs short of what they were projected to get, with the Pakistan and Sri Lanka sealing last-over wins.
India’s struggles in the death overs coincides with Dinesh Karthik’s absence from the team. Karthik featured in the group stage games against Pakistan and HongKong but did not get to bat. He was subsequently dropped for the Super 4 games and India have suffered defeats in both and are now staring at an exit.
