In the second T20I, India won the toss and opted to bowl first. Sri Lanka openers got off to a good start sharing 67 run partnership. However once Gunathilaka was out, Indian bowlers took wickets in quick succession. In the 15th over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, Dinesh Chandimal was dismissed for 8 after hitting one straight to Rohit Sharma at extra cover.
By taking the catch, Rohit became the first Indian to take 50 catches in T20Is. He also became only the fourth fielder in the world to take 50 catches in T20Is. He has now levelled Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik and is behind David Miller and Martin Guptill, who have taken 69 and 64 catches respectively.
IND vs SL Live: Captain Rohit Sharma leads by example, brings up 50th catch in T20Is to send BIG MESSAGE to teammates after poor fieldingRohit Sharma has been a good fielder and by taking catches like these, he is leading by example as it comes at a time when other fielders in the Indian team are struggling to grab catches. The last series against West Indies saw many Indian fielders committing errors in the field by dropping easy catches. In the previous game against Sri Lanka too, the story was no different as Venkatesh Iyer slipped out a fairly straightforward catch and Shreyas Iyer had dropped an easy catch at deep mid-wicket.
After the last game, speaking about the dropped catches, Rohit Sharma said, “It is consistently happening, we are dropping easy catches which is not expected at this level. Our Fielding coach has some work to do. We want to improve on this and come Australia, we want to be a good fielding side.”
