Axar Patel batted and bowled brilliantly in the first T20I. The southpaw scored 31 runs off 20 balls lower down the order and held his nerve well in the last over defending 13 runs. The all-rounder has more or less sealed his place in the playing XI for the second T20I.

IND vs SL Live: Will Dravid and Pandya drop Chahal for Sundar or Kuldeep Yadav? – With Axar Patel as fixed spinner, Shivam Mavi and Umran Malik as tow pacers, Pandya and Dravid can only drop Chahal. The leg spinner had a lackluster outing as he went wicketless conceding 26 runs in two overs. With the Pune pitch going to aid spinners, it will be interesting to see if Chahal is persisted with.
Mavi and Umran cannot be dropped as the two pacers did a superb job in the first T20I picking up four and two wickets respectively. The third seamer Harshal Patel was a tab bit expensive conceding 41 runs in four overs, but he ended up taking two wickets. Only Chahal’s spot is in danger and Dravid and Pandya have to make a tricky decision to field one among two spinners.
IND vs SL: Why Sundar and Kuldeep will fight for one spot in the playing XI?
- Axar Patel demonstrated his all-around capabilities in the first T20I, and hence he cannot be dropped.
- Shivam Mavi and Umran bowled well in 1st T20 and cannot be dropped.
- India top order batters struggled for timing, so Dravid and Pandya may look to beef the batting line-up by adding Sundar.
- Sundar is in good form as he scored vital runs lower down the order in the T20 series against New Zealand and is pretty economical with the ball.
- Kuldeep Yadav is a less equipped batter than Sundar. But the Chainaman is a wicket-taking option in the T20 format.
- With India going in with three pacers and two spinners, it will be a direct shootout between Yadav and Sundar.
