India will take on Sri Lanka in three T20Is, which will be followed by two Test matches. While Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant has been given rest and not been included in the T20I squad, Bumrah has been included in the team.

“I am very surprised that Bumrah is playing in these T20Is. Every player wants to play, no doubt, but we have two Tests following this series as well. There are many matches to come. We have so many options among fast bowlers and a significant number of them need game time and confidence,” said Nehra, while speaking the Cricbuzz.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Avesh Khan, for example, need more game time. The moment Bumrah returns to the XI, one of these players will have to miss the spot. So I’m surprised that he is playing her,” the recently-appointed coach of Gujarat Titans further added.

The first T20I of the series will be played today at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, before the focus shifts to Dharamshala for the remaining two matches. The Test matches will be played at Mohali and Bengaluru.
